Bobby Gilboy - Personal Trainer

Bobby has been an integral part of the local fitness industry for the past 25 years, having served as the General Manager of both Franco’s Athletic Club and Pelican Athletic Club. While serving in the GM capacity at PAC, the West St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce honored Bobby with the “Business Person of the Year” award in 2000. In 2003 he founded “Gilboys Health Club (Now BFF). Bobby is both A.C.E. certified personal trainer and a Functional Training Specialist with the American Council on exercise. He also teaches 2 group fitness circuit training classes a week.

Joseph Bessette - Yoga

Joseph is a Yoga Alliance-registered experienced yoga instructor. He has an RYT 500-hour certification and is also a registered ERYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) having taught for many years. Trained in the Krishnamacharya tradition at Yoga School of Covington he can offer classes suited to students with different levels of experience and different needs. His classes stress mindfulness and breath awareness and are designed to apply the ancient wisdom of yoga to todayʼs world.

Gavin Guidry - Personal Trainer

Years of experience with a focus on strength, speed, agility, flexibility, mobility, and weight management. Gavin offers a unique blend of functional training and sports performance to teach and inspire a fundamental foundation for everyday life. Shirley Samson - Yoga

Shirley Samson, E-RYT200, RYT500, received her RYT-200 registered yoga teacher certification from The Yoga School of Covington, Covington, LA, under the direction of senior teacher, Becky Gelatt, whose teachings are rooted in the lineage and tradition of T. Krishnamacharya, T.K.V. Desikchar, and Gary Kraftsow and the Viniyoga Tradition, with a strong Iyengar background and influence. Continuing her education, she received her RYT-300 registered yoga teacher certification from Yoga Path, Baton Rouge, LA, under the direction of senior teacher, Kate Suchanek, whose teachings are also rooted in the lineage and tradition of T. Krishnamacharya, T.K.V. Desikchar, and Gary Kraftsow and the Viniyoga Tradition, along with the lineage of Kripalu.

In July 2018, Shirley completed her training as a Yoga Nidra Facilitator with Delisha Jones of Soul Technologies, Baton Rouge, LA.

Shirley’s goal as a yoga teacher is to create a safe, warm, and encouraging atmosphere for students to explore and expand within their own body and consciousness. She works with adults at slow-paced vinyasa practice, focusing on the mind-body connection with the breath. Teaching students to combine breath with movement in a balancing combination of gentle and challenging yoga postures designed to rejuvenate and relax the body. These classes are open to all levels for those who can easily get up and down to the floor.

Always emphasizing the practice of honoring the body’s current state through ahimsa (non-violence), students are guided by Shirley to explore all the possibilities yoga has, to improve the health and well-being of mind, body and spirit.

Suzanne Fernandez - Group Fitness

I have been in the fitness industry for over 30 years. I began teaching aerobics way back when Jane Fonda was wearing leg warmers. I am certified through AFAA, YMCA, NDETA, Reebok Step and Thomas the Promise Kickbox. I have a grown son & daughter and two beautiful grandchildren, Mike and Madelyn. I enjoy spending time with them and hanging out with friends and family, cooking and drinking wine.

Louise McCann - Yoga/Pilates

Mother of three and wife of Steve. She has been a fitness instructor for twenty years and at BFF for the last seven. Her specialty is yoga and pilates. She also holds a masters degree in Physical Therapy. She resides in Covington and spends her days homeschooling and managing her home.

Kendra Chong - Group Fitness Instructor

Kendra has been teaching group exercise classes since 1996 with certifications through AFAA Group Fitness and Les Mills International-Body Pump. Her philosophy is “any form of fitness should be fun if people are going to stick with it”! Music is her biggest motivator. Kendra makes each class fun and energetic by motivating you with music while getting a great workout. Kendra has been with BFF for many years and her classes are one of our most popular. Heather Newman - Barre & Group Fitness Training

Heather Newman is our Group Fitness Director, Marketing Director and BFF’s exclusive Barre Instructor.  (Founder of BootyBarre100, BootyBarre200, BootyBarre365, BarreBasics and BX3 BARRE methods).  She was born and raised in Kenner, LA. Active in dance all her life, exercising and training is second nature to Heather. She began dancing at the age of four and was selected to be President of her dance team both middle and high school, won top competition awards in dance at LSU and other competitions of the top traveling dance team competitions in the state. She attended Southeastern Louisiana University where she was on the Lionette Dance Team and a member/rush director of Tri-Sigma Sorority.  Transferred to UNO where she danced with the Tulane Dance Team and received a degree in Business with a minor in Marketing. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, Heather became Louisiana state licensed in P&C, L&H Insurance and professionally certified by AFAA/NASM for group fitness in New Orleans where she taught a variety of step classes, small group trained and managed group fitness, sales, marketing and membership at local fitness clubs for many years.  Heather has earned specialized certifications in Barre, Pilates, Yoga, Group Fitness, Nutrition, Life & Health Coaching with AFAA/NASM.  She is an active AFAA/NASM certified group fitness, BARRE instructor, Success & Mindset Coach.  She has been in the industry for over 20+ years.   Heather has always been passionate about dance, fitness, nutrition, clean eating, healthy lifestyle, mentoring, encouraging & empowering others, personal development and exercise and is very dedicated to being a part of our BFF team since April 2015.  Heather now offers both private and small group Barre training at BFF customized to meet your individual level(s).  (Bookings by appt. only for privates)

Joel Klein - Personal Trainer

Joel K. Klein has been involved in weightlifting and fitness since he was 11 years old and still actively involved in it. He has been working, training and instructing in the fitness industry for over 32 years now as a previous GM/Owner/Trainer of World Gym, K-FIT and Covington Athletic Club. Joel has also owned and operated Joel Klein Fitness studios throughout his years in the gym business. He earned a BGS and BS degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. His main studies included: Anatomy & Physiology, Biomechanics and Kinesiology. His other areas of education include continuing practical application & learning in the field as well attending conferences , workshops and extensive reading. Along with attending educational events over the years, he has been through various weight room and training certifications. He has been a member of American College of Sports Medicine and Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. Joel was a Combat Engineer in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1987-1995 ARNG and was assigned as a physical fitness instructor in his unit while attending additional PFT courses in the Army. Joel has been a power lifter and a competitive bodybuilder having won numerous overall bodybuilding championships for many years. He won the overall Louisiana Bodybuilding contest earning him the title of Mr. Louisiana in 1994-95, which qualified him for the nationals to turn professional. He was mentored by nationally recognized fitness professionals in his early years as a fitness trainer and has attained a vast wealth of knowledge in different training styles over the years which is helpful for specific styles of individual training. Joel has years of experience training high school, college, and professional athletes and focuses on general toning, strength & conditioning for all ages.

He is available for one on one and group training sessions.

Sarah McAdams - HIIT, PT & Group Training

Sarah is part of our Bogue Falaya Fitness sales team and a group fitness instructor certified in 2016 with IAFP.  She is a recent college graduate who just became a certified PT by successfully passing her intense test in July 2018 with ACE.  Sarah teaches high intensity interval training group X classes and offers basic equipment training courses to all new members.  Sarah offers drop in training sessions at BFF 2x per week.  She has been a member of our BFF family since 2015 and enjoys healthy food choices, weight lifting, and encouraging others to do better.

Melissa LeBlanc - Yoga

Melissa began practicing Yoga in 2005 and fell in love with it during her first class.  Immediately hooked on Yoga, Melissa has explored many techniques and lineages, learning to love something about each class or text.  Ultimately, she found joy and self-care were common threads in every school of Yoga thought.  Melissa teaches every class with a light heart and a smiling face, hoping to guide every student through the class to a sense of fulfillment.
Melissa and her husband, Mark, have been married since 1997.  They share a love of family, friends, animals, travel, and being outdoors.
In 2014, Melissa completed a 250 hour Vinyasa Yoga certification and in 2018, she completed a 200 hour certification in Smartflow Yoga.  Currently RYT200.
